Little Mouse

so soft, so warm
my little mouse
cradling you in my palms
your white whiskers tickle my fingers
and after you pry yourself from my grasp
with your little pink nose
you scurry up my arm
your black and white spots
the ears that are too big for you
your long worm tail
you squeak with curiosity
and I laugh because your little pink feet tickle

but is it better, little mouse
to be kept in cages safe from harm
than to roam free in a world so dangerous?
full with creatures that would soon have you as an h'ors deurve?
and then i liken you to a prisoner
kept inside his cage
no friends
no family
no freedom
